The Historical Works of Suleiman Al-Mousa! (Al-Ghad Newspaper 11/2008)

Professor Yasser Abu Halala pointed out in his article "Randa Habib: How Does the Butterfly of Journalism Escape the Fire of the Source and Stay Close to It?" (Thursday, 2008/11/13) that the Israelis were the ones who primarily documented Jordan, and I do not know how the writer overlooked the role of historian Suleiman Al-Mousa in writing the history of Jordan, who was nicknamed "Dean of Jordanian Historians"?! This man lived the history of Jordan and the Arab Revolt and documented it moment by moment, writing about the heroism of the Jordanian Arab Army on the sacred soil of Palestine, turning it into "Folded Pages", "Pictures of Heroism", and "Unforgettable Days" books. One of the most important books was "Lawrence of Arabia: An Arab Perspective" which was published in 1962 and translated into English, French, and Japanese, in which he righted the wrongs done to its people and the "Unforgettable Days" and restored the truth to its rightful owners. Suleiman Al-Mousa wrote two full parts about the history of Jordan in the twentieth century, describing historical events between 1900-1950 and 1958-1995. There is also the book "Pages from Modern Jordanian History - Highlights on British Documents," which covers the early phase of independence between 1946 and 1952. The book 'Studies in the Modern History of Jordan' discusses the Arabization of the army leadership, King Abdullah I (his life biography, his role in the Great Arab Revolt, the social development of Jordan during his reign, the formation of the Transjordan Pact - 1923, the demographic structure (villages, tribes, and leaders) - 1922, and other topics. I also am not forgetting to mention his book 'The Establishment of the Jordanian Emirate’ and 'The Emirate of East Jordan: Its Emergence and Development over a Quarter Century,' which talks about the role of Prince Abdullah bin Al-Hussein in establishing the Emirate of East Jordan between 1921 and 1945.

Suleiman Al-Mousa wrote the biographies of some prominent Jordanian figures who witnessed the history of Jordan and King Hussein bin Talal, may God have mercy on him, including Tawfiq Abu Al-Huda, Saeed Al-Mufti, Wasfi Al-Tal, Suleiman Al-Nabulsi, Hazaa Al-Majali, Yacoub Al-Awdat, Hosni Fariz, Dr. Hanna Al-Qasous, among others. It should be noted that in pursuit of truth, before writing any word about any event or person, Suleiman Al-Mousa would visit cities and villages, meet those involved and eyewitnesses to the events, to understand the details and write an accurate history free of distortions.

In the end, I encourage everyone to explore the books of Suleiman Al-Mousa, as they are filled with valuable information about the history and formation of Jordan. His books are studied in both Arab and foreign universities, including the University of Oxford in Britain. Rarely does a study or research on the history of Jordan and the Arab Revolution exclude a reference to his works. I would like to point to Professor Rogan from the University of Oxford, who said: 'Suleiman Al-Mousa attracted the attention of Western readers when he published his famous study on Lawrence of Arabia from an Arab perspective... to the extent that a Western historian of this region rarely begins work on a new topic without discovering that Suleiman Al-Mousa had preceded him.' In this sense, we are truly his students. The professors of Middle Eastern history in Western countries have considered his book "Unforgettable Days: Jordan in the 1948 War" the best book in Arabic on the 1948 War... I hope that time will allow Western researchers to express their gratitude for the privilege of Suleiman Al-Mousa's works.
